Jordan Akin is from Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated in May 2014 from Hendrix College where she majored in Religious Studies and minored in Psychology. Jordan is a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Little Rock. Jordan is a second- year YAV, having spent her first year in Hollywood, California working in homeless services. Growing up attending youth conferences and spending family vacations in Montreat, she is excited to be living and working in this area and serving the Asheville community. Jordan is working with YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly.
Lisa Freeman is from Key West, Florida and graduated in December 2014 from Belmont University in Nashville, TN where she majored in Exercise Science and minored in Nutrition. Throughout her time in college, Lisa was active in food and health justice work across the city of Nashville and she excited to work in that capacity in the beautiful city of Asheville through Beloved and Asheville Poverty Initiative.
Caitlyn Hathaway is a native of Hartsville, SC and graduated from Presbyterian College in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville, where she found a passion for serving the church and was very involved in children’s and youth ministries. As a Religion major at PC she learned how to tie work in the church with social justice work in the world, which is most helpful this year as she serves at the Asheville Youth Mission.
Abby Sepanski is from Auburn, AL where she has spent the past 14 years of her life. During her time at Auburn University she studied Secondary Social Science Education, and recently graduated in August of 2015. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Auburn and through that she was a member of the UKirk Auburn program. She attended the Montreat College Conferences during her time as a student, which is what introduced her to the area. Now living here, she is excited to be able to get to know the Asheville area better. The ways to her heart are anything Auburn (especially football), cats, coffee, and macaroni and cheese. War Eagle! Abby is one of two volunteers working with Homeward Bound.
Emily Stevens was born and raised in Rochester, NY. She attended the College of Wooster previous to her YAV year, majoring in Religious Studies and minoring in Environmental Studies. She wished to explore these two fields further, particularly throughout her YAV year. Emily has grown up in the Presbyterian Church (USA), actively participating in youth group throughout her childhood in Rochester and attending the 2014 General Assembly as a Young Adult Advisory Delegate. For her year in Asheville, Emily is working at the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity.
Allison Ward was born and raised in Wilmington, NC but most recently came from Mars Hill University where she earned both of her degrees in Art Therapy and Art. Her passions are God, coffee, the outdoors, the people she gets to share life with, and environmental and economic justice. She is thrilled to be back in the Asheville area, seeing the city from an entirely new perspective. Allison is one of two volunteers working with Homeward Bound.
